The strange situation surrounding Chris Martin continues to provide further column inches in the press.

Yesterday it was revealed that Martin, 28-years of age, has signed, despite being on loan at Fulham for the season, a new three-and-a-half-year contract with his parent club Derby County.

However, although Martin has a new contract at his parent club, the situation exists whereby Fulham are insistent that he will not be returning to Derby this season and that the terms of the season-long loan agreement means that Fulham still have the option to buy Martin if they so desire., for a fee of £9 million.

A Fulham source, remarking about the situation, is quoted by the BBC as having remarked,

‘The signing of a new contract with Derby does not impact on the terms of the loan arrangement agreed by both clubs.

‘Chris Martin will be at Fulham for the remainder of the season and the club still has an option to purchase.’

What a strange situation!
