So near but so far, as Fulham lose a five goal thriller.

Although we lost up at Old Trafford, Martin Jol can take so many positives form the game as we made Manchester United work for their reward.

Fulham arrived at Old Trafford not having scored for over eight hours but all that changed in 150 seconds yesterday. When Petiric won a free kick; Ruiz made eye contact with Duff, who spun off of his marker Young, to lost home past De Gea.

Bit perhaps Fulham scored too early because United came back with a vengeance. Van Persie picke dup a pass from Evra and with Hangeland giving him, possibly, too much space, the Dutchman scored a goal of stunning quality.

Two more strikers, before half time, had us fearing a thrashing. The first saw Riether play Kagawa onside and the Japanese international finished from close range whilst the second of the brace, close to half time, saw Rafael also score from close range.

Meanwhile Fulham were left to rue a chance from Petric that appeared to hit the underside of the bar and come out to safety.

But any fears of a second half thrashing were ot prove misplaced. Fulham played well and when Vidic scored an own goal, just after the hour mark, after a mix-up with De Gea, the keeper had to play a blinder to keep out efforts from Dembele and Petric.

In short we almost, considering our poor record at Old Trafford, pulled off not the improbable but the impossible.
