Okay! We never ended that awful record of never having won at Anfield but we returned south with a lot of respect and our reputation enhanced.

In fact it was quite a journey south and the long drive gave us all time to reflect on a result that had the critics proved wrong as we didn`t just hold on for appoint we almost snatched all three with a display that showed we`re heading in the right direction.

For the fixture Roy Hodgson stuck with the same eleven that had beaten Tottenham the week before which meant that Clint Dempsey kept his place in the starting eleven ahead of Zoltan Gera.

At a packed Anfield both teams started well. Dirk Kuyt had an early chance after some good build-up play by Liverpool and the action was frenetic in the middle of the pitch.

Fulham`s first chance of opening the scoring came when a free kick was floated into the danger area, Dempsey tried an overhead kick and the ball fell adjacent to Andrew Johnson, but the striker couldn`t direct this effort and it went straight at Pepe Reina.

Robbie Keane then forced Mark Schwarzer into a fine save from eight yards out as the home support cheered their team vociferously on. But Fulham were not reading the Scouse script and a smart move involving Davies and Zamora saw Bullard unleash a shot that Reina did well to tip behind for a corner.

The first forty-five minutes had passed and we`d more than held our own.

The second half saw Rafa Benitez deploy Robbie Keane slightly behind Fernando Torres and, at first, Fulham struggled to cope with the tactical change.

Keane`s industry provided a chance for Torres but his curling shot was too high to trouble Schwarzer. The Liverpool pressure increased when a Torres shot resulted in two corners in quick succession, the second of which saw Kuyt again go close.

Schwarzer then had to react smartly to produce a good save from Kuyt as Liverpool threatened to get that breakthrough they craved. Torres and Ryan Babel both went close but as the clock ran down it was becoming clear that Fulham were to defy both Liverpool, and the critics, to come away with a point.

Next up is Aston Villa, another tough test.
