As the dust settles on our 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Spurs on Boxing Day, hardly the festive experience we were hoping for, our caretaker manager has looked back on a decision he made.

After being bold and going for a 4-3-3 formation, it would appear that Lewington now has slight regrets about doing so.

Here`s what he had to say during the post match interview,

“If they play like that they will be relegated, but I hope they won`t. Everything that could go wrong went wrong today.”

“But we are realistic enough to know that the performance was not good either and we have got to put that right.”

“In the first half we changed the shape, with the record we have away from home. We went into a 4-3-3 system and it made us a bit more solid in the middle and gave us pace on the flanks.”

“But we didn`t do the basics. Stopping them play. You can`t do that against a side of Spurs` talent. That is always a risky thing and I`m looking back and thinking whether I should have changed the shape. Perhaps I could have stayed 4-4-2.”

Hindsight Ray, something a manager would love to possess!

  • 4-3-3 is a more attacking formation, surely, in your predicament, you’d be better of making any changes at Craven Cottage and not on the road!

  • away we should go for 4-5-1 and keep it tight! We’re not good enough to test the likes of Spurs on their own patch with three in midfield!

  • I bet Chris Coleman is laughing his balls off, perhaps Al Fayed realises now what a good job he did to keep you lot up. With both Wigan and Birmingham winning you are in the *****e. He will need to spend some pennies and quick.

  • At one point we only had 3 at the back and that was before Volz was sent off!! 4-3-3 didnt work because soel was absolute *****e, and dempsey had to keep back and help Chris “can’t do this” Baird out. which left us with one up front and another player who may as well not of been on the field!!
