Brought to Craven Cottage on a short term deal, it was expected that Giorgos Karagounis would be on his way at the end of the season.

But apparently not!

Although the Greek international has hit the ripe old age of 35, his performances have been impressive enough for Martin Jol to consider giving the veteran another contract with Jol explaining after the 1-0 win over Stoke City at the weekend,

“Giorgos loves to play here and if we feel the moment is right we will sit down with him and offer him a new contract.”

“He`s not the youngest, he`s nearly 36. But every time we get other players playing you miss him.”

“Last week I didn`t play him because I was annoyed he was playing for the Greece national team so I played Emmanuel Frimpong.”

“But in this game I knew we needed someone like him who can make us play and can make us tick in midfield.”

It looks like Karagounis could be getting a one year deal then, good news all-round we`d say!
