It’s Not All Sunshine And Smiles Down On The South Coast As Fulham Throw Away A Two-Goal Lead

Down on the south coast, Fulham lost a 2-0 lead, in a competitive game, to draw 2-2.

The result saw a run of two consecutive victories, in all competitions come to an end, but, looking on the bright side, extended our current unbeaten run to three games.

Our hosts, Brighton, had the better start to the game and should have taken the lead when Glenn Murray was fouled n the area, Pascal Gross took responsibility for the spot-kick but his effort was saved by Marcus Bettinelli.

Boosted by that piece of good fortune, Fulham took the lead two minutes before half-time when Andre Schurrle notched his second goal of the season, the German international finishing with aplomb after a fine pass from Jean Michael Serri.

Emerging after the break, leading 1-0, Fulham were to double their lead when Aleksandar Mitrovic scored his fourth goal in three Premier League games.

Leading 2-0, all three points should have been coming back to West London, but, Brighton mounted a commendable fightback and reduced the arrears when Glenn Murray scored.

With Brighton pushing forward looking for the equaliser, Mitrovic went from hero to villain when he inexplicably handled the ball in the area whilst appearing to try and control it with his chest.

This time Murray took responsibility for the spot-kick and beat Bettinelli with a fine strike.

From leading 2-0, Fulham had been dragged back to 2-2 and had to defend frantically to keep a share of the spoils as Brighton pressed for a late winner.

Next up for Fulham, after the international break, is a trip to Manchester to take on the reigning Premier League title holders, Manchester City.
