“It happens”: Key Fulham figure tries to defuse the situation surrounding Ademola Lookman

|

That should hopefully put an end to the matter.

Now let’s just hope it doesn’t rear its ugly head once again. Our designated penalty taker Aleksandar Mitrovic was taken off of spot-kick duties on Saturday against West Ham United on Saturday, and unfortunately it didn’t work out as Ademola Lookman made one of the more catastrophic errors of recent times at Fulham.

There have been some reports that Mitrovic gave Lookman the ball because he was nursing an injury and wasn’t able to take it. If that is true, then I think that raises some questions over Mitrovic and his handling of it, because unless he was totally unable to walk (and given he’s on international duty now, I doubt that’s the case) I don’t see how he can be so injured that he couldn’t walk the five or so yards to take the penalty, but that’s a different matter.

Speaking to Sky Sports whilst with his national team, the Serbian was keen to stress that he is back to being the club’s designated taker after the shenanigans of the weekend, whilst at the same time showing some levels of support for Lookman:

Would you drop Lookman for what he did?

Yes

No

I do like the attitude with which he’s talking about the whole thing, trying to diffuse the situation somewhat, but as I’ve been talking about over the past few days, I don’t think that Lookman should get off lightly considering what he did and the time that he did it.

So hopefully a bit of ‘tough love’ if you will will get things back on track for Lookman, and the club as a result.

What about you? What do you make of Mitrovic’s comments?
