How Do You Solve A Problem Like Zamora?

I guess it is fair to say that Bobby Zamora played a crucial role in yesturday’s win. One goal and two assists. Excellent work.

As we know, Bobby has rejected a move to Hull despite the chance to double his wages. You’ve got to hand it to him due to the fact he has decided to stay and fight for a place in a European side and not moved for the money. Furthermore, with Crouch having signed for Tottenham, it seems his chances of a regular place are far higher.

Obviously, he didn’t do well last year. The fact that he ended up having less goals in the league than Diomansy Kamara is indicative of this. His general displays were largely just about adequate.

Furthermore, his partnership with Andy Johnson never really took off and the goals never really came consistently for either of them despite the obvious hard work both put in, which in turn contributed to a stricter defence with the old addage of ‘defending from the front’.

This is where the problem lies. We did see at times last season that he can cut the mustard. His performance in the early home matches against Arsenal showed his battling qualities and Bolton showed us his skill with an excellent display and a world class goal.

It’s a new season, Zamora has done well in pre-season and looks in fighting form. I say, let’s give him another chance and hopefully he can boost his goal tally.
