After such a disappointing season and one that could get worse before things get better you`d have thought we could show a little optimism.

The comebacks of Jimmy Bullard and Brain McBride were supposed to provide that, their re-emergence being seen as the catalyst for a survival charge to be mounted.

Unfortunately, that`s not as Roy Hodgson see`s it remarking,

‘I’m very pleased he has had such an important place in the affection of the crowd, but I won’t be putting him under that sort of pressure.’

“The crowd`s reaction was more ‘welcome back, well done, we like you` than now Jimmy you have to single-handedly save us.”

“The fans have a vision of McBride, of Bullard, but you need a number of games before you can get back to the level at which fans remember you.”

Talk about pouring water on a dream!

So they`ll be expected to perform a miracle with even fewer games left!
