“He’s a player I love”: Scott Parker issues ‘hands off’ message regarding 24 y/o midfielder

|

Over my dead body.

That appeared to be the message that Scott Parker wanted to put out there when it came to the future of midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa. Having spent last season on loan with Villarreal, he’s set to play a major part in our efforts to stay in the division, despite efforts from outside to try and get him away from Craven Cottage.

And speaking after our victory over Ipswich on Tuesday night, boss Parker reiterated his desire to see the 24-year-old stay with us and be a major part of how we play going forward:

“Yes, the club want him to stay – from my point of view he is [staying]. He’s a player I love, he’s a player that I’ve spent a lot of time with from when I first came [to the club]. He had his struggles early on when he first came in. I think Frank knows exactly what I think of him. He’s a player that I’m looking at to really be a major part of what we’re trying to do this year.”

Anguissa will score _____ goals for us this season?

Less than 5

5 or more

I’ve said before that I was under the belief that Anguissa would stay, even if I did feel that he was going to be a bit down the pecking order with the likes of Josh Onomah, Harrison Reed, Tom Cairney and Mario Lemina ahead of him in the pecking order.

However, if his form can be anywhere near what it was the last time we were in the Premier League, where he was one of our better players, particularly in the latter part of the season under Parker, then he really could be a valuable asset to us on the pitch rather than his value in the bank account.

I just don’t want to be the one that has to work out how you give all of them their fair amount of game time.

What about you? Where would you rank Anguissa in terms of the midfield hierarchy? Would you start him every week?
