Yesterday (Saturday) we highlighted that our striker, David Healy, was on course to set a new European Championship Qualifying scoring record!

This morning we`re pleased to confirm that Healy, in the 80th minute of his sides clash with Denmark did in fact set that record scoring the thirteenth goal of the campaign.

It proved to be the winning goal as Northern Ireland beat Denmark 2-1. In fact Northern Ireland, boosted by David`s goals, are still in with a faint chance of qualification.

If they can beat Spain in an away fixture and Sweden lose their remaining home fixture, Healy will get the chance to shine in the 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland.

For the record Healy`s goal, at Windsor Park, was an exquisite one with the striker turning and chipping over the Danish keeper from an acute angle.

Hopefully, Healy can score another goal in Spain to move the record to 14 leaving the scoring exploits of the previous record holder, Davor Suker, firmly in the shade.

After the game, Healy, delighted at taking the record, was remarkably calm explaining,

“It was a phenomenal night. I didn`t really want to talk about the record – it was all about winning the game.”

“We are never beaten and I`m just proud to wear this jersey.”

“We`ve been written off in just about every game – but we can still do it.”

As for recognition from his boss, Nigel Worthington had this to say,

David`s a delight to work with – he`s a true leader.”

We here at Vital Fulham would like to offer David Healy our heartiest congratulations on a remarkable achievement.
