It`s not often that, as a club side, we can hopefully celebrate an international achievement!

However, with the domestic league put on hold whilst the scrap for those remaining Euro 2008 places continues, our striker, David Healy, has the chance to put his name into the record books.

Healy has a very good chance of setting a new scoring record in a European Championship qualifying campaign.

The record is current held by the Croatian striker, Davor Suker, who scored 12 goals, a record set twelve years ago.

David, with two games remaining in the qualifying campaign currently sits alongside Suker on 12 goals and has a great chance to become something of a legend.

Indeed, his international manager, Nigel Worthington, has waxed lyrical about his achievements in the pre-match interviews remarking,

“He will do it hopefully tomorrow.”

“It would be a magnificent achievement given the size of Northern Ireland.”

“But David is like a good wine. He is improving with age.”

“What comes with age is experience and he uses these tools very well. He loves scoring goals and that is a great habit to have.”

“David will break many records over the next few years.”

“Considering we went through a barren spell (1,298 minutes without scoring), to catch up the way he has done is tremendous.”

“What you have to remember as well is that David is a team player.”

“I am sure the record would mean little to him if we did not succeed.”

We here at Vital Fulham will be hoping that David nets that crucial thirteenth goal against Denmark this afternoon and that the likes of Ronaldo and Eduardo, who lag behind him in the scoring charts, draw blanks.

Come on David, you can do it!
