Mark Hughes, following yet another clean sheet, this time against Chelsea, took time out after the game to praise his defenders.

However, what is only coming to light now is that one of his central defenders, Brede Hangeland, played despite being far from fully fit, a point confirmed by Aaron Hughes after the Irishman took time out to address the media ahead of our impending FA Cup clash with Bolton Wanderers.

This is what Aaron had to say,

‘I don’t know how Brede made it through the game. He had been unwell all day and he was shattered afterwards.

‘But that is Brede for you. He wanted to stay on, he wanted to get through it, he’s never one to put his hand up and say ‘I’ve got to come off, I’m not feeling very well’. He’ll go on until you have to drag him off.’

A commendable effort, which makes keeping that clean sheet all the more remarkable!
