In the week leading up to the Premier League clash with Wigan, we thought we`d take time out to talk to Warbo the Vital Wigan editor.
Many say that Fulham suffer from living in the shadow of our successful neighbours Chelsea, do you get a similar vibe about competing in a town where Rugby is the dominant sport?
Popular misconception that Rugby is the dominant sport in Wigan, the problem that us Latics have is living in the shadows of Man U, Liverpool, Man City and Everton. All four clubs are within a 20 mile radius of Wigan and we are in their supporter`s catchment area and all four have been successful at some point in the past 20 years. I`d rather not talk about the other club you mentioned
How do you feel Wigan have started the season?
The season has started off superbly, not just the results but how the team are playing together, football on the ground and the players working for each other, couldn`t have asked for more.
Were you surprised when Jewell left and the relatively untried Chris Hutchings took over?
Hutch was appointed very quickly after Jewell left (within a day) so there was no time to be wondering who we`d get in, although Chris Coleman was on the rumour mill for about half an hour. At the time I thought it was a backward step appointing Hutch, but to be honest he`s been a breath of fresh air.
How have your signings settled in?
All the new signings have settled in very well, Melchiot is the new captain, Bramble is absolutely awesome at the back, honestly, Koumas has added a much needed touch of flair to the midfield and Sibierski is the leagues leading goal scorer, what more could you ask. Not seen much of Brown yet, he was suspended for opening two games, but he`s still managed to pick up two bookings!
Were you as amazed as us when Fulham went on a signing spree?
Absolutely, I thought Mr Fayed had tightened the purse strings but Sanchez appears to have been spending like a man possessed and the new signings look like they have settled in well for you guys.
Which one player of ours would you like to sign?
Easy one that, give us our Jimmy back, injured or not, just to have him around the place. He is worth £5 million for his personality alone, he lifts all the other players in the team and he also lifts the supporters. I hope he has made a full recovery and gets his career back on track.
Any good drinking holes we should look out for on Saturday?
The Red Robin is the usual away fans spot; about 100 yards from the stadium, if you come by train try the ‘Moon Under the Water` in town or the ‘Orange House` both serve food as well as beer, never any trouble in any of the local boozers (I`ve said it now) and there is lots about.
Where do you think both clubs will finish?
I think both clubs will have a comfortable mid table finish so long as key players stay fit and clear of suspensions
