Farewell my friend and thanks for your efforts.

The deal that sees Fernando Amorebieta leave Craven Cottage for pastures new has finally been done.

Speculation had been rife for weeks that the 31-year-old Venezuelan international had his suitcases packed and was ready to be moved on.

It just seemed a case of whether Amorebieta would leave for Spanish football or be tempted by a move to St James Park to attempt to revive Newcastle United`s flagging fortunes under the tutorship of Rafa Benitez.

As it turns out Amorebieta has opted for the sunshine of La Liga and joined Sporting Gijon.

The fee for the transfer carries that fashionable undisclosed fee tag, although with one-year left on his Fulham contract some money would have changed hands.

Amorebieta leaves West London, after signing from Athletic Bilbao back in the summer of 2013, having made just 48 appearances.

Here at Vital Fulham we`d like to wish Fernando Amorebieta all the best and thank him for his contribution to the Fulham cause.
