The news that the Aston Villa manager, Gerard Houllier, has been admitted to hospital with a heart scare broke yesterday.

It is the second time that Houllier has had health problems, the first coming during his time at Liverpool.

It makes you wonder why Houllier decided to continue in what is a pressure cooker atmosphere that can, quite easily, drive the sanest of people mad.

Mark Hughes though, gives an insight into what it really is like parading that technical area, controlling a playing staff and doing what many perceive as a job where you`ll inevitably, sooner or later get the sack, commentnng to the media ahead of our trip to Wolves,

“Our thoughts are with Gerard and his family during this worrying time and we wish him well.”

“He has a history of poor health episodes and I hope this is not too serious this time.”

“But when you are in this job the pressure builds up, especially at this time of the season.”

“The stresses can come through the floor and affect you if you have any weaknesses in your health.”

“You have to understand what this game does to you.”

“But when I was out of the game for the first time in my career – after I was sacked by Manchester City – it was okay for a month. But after that you crave getting back involved.”

“It is what you love doing. It is like a drug and once you have a taste of it, it is with you and it has to be satisfied.”

Al at Vital Fulham would like to wish Gerard a speedy recovery.
