Every manager, at every football club in the land has signed a player, and ended up regretting it.
Even the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson make some judgments that seem to lack in the thought department, such as an infamous Juan Sebastian Veron.
Here at Fulham, over the course of his glorious reign, I’ve sadly become to notice Roy himself is no different.
Obviously, with times ever changing in the world of football, it’s highly difficult for managers to decipher if a player is in fact right for the club and will make a significant contribution for his team.
However, it is always sad to see news reports crop up that a player wants to leave, simply for a lack of first-team opportunities. Fredrik Stoor and Kagisho Dikgacoi come to mind when I think of recent players that have voiced their concerns here at Craven Cottage.
Stoor was set to be a big player for us, after shining in Euro 2008 for his native country, Sweden. However, he is yet to truly flourish in South West London and has already made it clear he wants some competitive football under his belt.
After spending £2 million pounds on the right back, you would feel that Roy would at least give Fredrik a few games to impress and prove his worth to the side. Those games have failed to materialise though, and it would seem they never will, with the addition of Stephen Kelly during the Summer.
So, I hear you ask, what exactly am I getting at?
In all honesty, I don’t know. I suppose this reflection on our recent purchases has shown it’s simply impossible to get it right every time. There will always be one player that seemed good at first, but failed to fulfil their potential.
In Roy though, I think we have someone who knows the market well, and these errors will be few and far between.
