Fulham v Sunderland – What the Bosses Thought!

With a return of one point from twelve, in our last four Premier League games, the feeling is that we`re in danger of slipping back into the scenario we faced last year, a fight to avoid relegation.

With the money spent this summer, I`m not alone in hoping we would have a better season, yesterday was a match we needed to get something from. Sunderland are not a team of superstars, they`re not going to make waves in the upper half, they`re the sort of team you need to get a result from.

These words were echoed by Roy Hodgson in his post match interview where he commented,

‘It was very, very important to get some sort of result from the game.”

‘We came up against a good Sunderland team and I think both teams actually have kicked on quite a lot from last year.”

‘I think that over the course of the 90 minutes the ebb and flow of the game meant that we were every bit as much in control as they were.”

Words that seem a little hollow this morning, as I reflect upon what went on yesterday afternoon, perhaps a fairer reflection of events comes form the visiting manager, Roy Keane who, with a nice little twist at the end, gives his version of events, explaining,

“I just got this feeling we could have played until midnight and we would not have scored.”

“That is why strikers get paid fortunes. They put the ball into the net.”

“I think a draw was a fair result.”

“Actually, I think we edged it.”

I doubt if you`ll get many takers prepared to argue with your last line Roy!
