I’m not going to lie; I had my doubts. After defeating both Shakhtar, the previous winners, and Juventus, a huge European super-power, I thought we may well come unstuck against a side that could easily be under-estimated in comparison.
Don’t get me wrong; I told everyone I knew that we would win, but I didn’t quite believe it deep down. 1 minute in though, and I guess things changed slightly.
It sounds soggy and it sounds corny and it sounds clichéd, but it all came down to belief on the night for me. Yes, tactically we were superior, but, we seemed far more up for the game, whilst our German opposition produced a lackluster and, to an extent, effortless display in front of their own fans.
That shouldn’t, however, take away from the performance our very own 11 men put out last night. They stuck to the game plan and they did Roy proud in the end, and it is wonderful on the ear to hear pundits and commentators alike offering Fulham Football Club never ending praise, for our humble nature, quiet demeanor, traditional values and most importantly; attractive football.
As bias as my viewpoint may well be on the matter, it is about time we got that praise too. Who knows, before long, we could be the football team that attracts the glory hunters!
