Reports are suggesting that Liverpool’s Sami Hyypia will not be moving this summer after being linked with Fulhan and Newcastle, amongst others, as he is about to put pen to paper on a new contract at Anfield.

Rafa Benitez is hoping the 34-year old Finnish defender will sign for the Reds for a further 12 months.

Rafa confirmed, in a quote suggesting we’ll not be getting him this summer, “Rick Parry (Liverpool ceo) is due to talk to Sami’s agent this weekend, and we hope everything will then be finished.”

Fulham have regularly been linked with Hyypia and we almost got our man on a number of occasions. In the summer we were reported to of agreed to sign him if Liverpool bought another Centre back, however Liverpool didn’t get one and so the move was called off. With the arrival of Roy in January the negotiations were back on and with the arrival of Skrtel things looked positive however the injury problems of Agger soon put an end to the move.

However, the Cottagers and the Magpies will have to turn their attention elsewhere with Hyypia set for his tenth season with Liverpool next term.
