With the squad now on the way back to London, after their Korean trip, the focus switches to the remaining pre-season fixtures.

The trip to Korea will have allowed the new players to become integrated with the squad and will also have given the gaffer the opportunity to see how they`ll fit into the pattern of play he wants to integrate next season.

Some of his signings, most notably David Stockdale, Bobby Zamora and Zoltan Gera, will have made an instant impression.

Others, and we`re naming no names here, will need a little more time to adjust to life at an English Premier League club and the change in surroundings and culture.

The results achieved during the trip to Korea mean very little, corporate hospitality off the pitch would probably have been more favourable when we`re discussing moving the club forwards.

Nevertheless, a win and a defeat, both by narrow margins, will have provided Roy`s squad with a little competitive action before the main event begins on August 18th with a trip to Hull City.

This coming Saturday we travel to St Andrews to take on a Birmingham City side that were relegated on that fateful last day of the season.

Personally, I think it`s a strange choice of fixture.

This week though, we could witness the arrival of Andrew Johnson from Everton, if the papers have got their facts right.

His arrival will give the Birmingham fixture a little added impetus; bearing in mind Birmingham is where Johnson started his career.

A spicy fixture just might get spiced up a little more before the season arrives following a home friendly with Torino, is it time to get all excited yet?
