Fulham Spring A Big Transfer Deadline Day Surprise

|

Entering the final day of the transfer market the last thing we, here at Vital Fulham, expected was for the club to sign another goalkeeper.

After adding Fabricio Agosto Ramírez, or Fabri as he likes to be known, to the squad, it was assumed that it would be a straight contest between Marcus Bettinelli and Fabri for the green jersey, but it seems that Slavisa Jokanovic had other ideas.

With the 17:00 summer transfer deadline approaching, the BBC confirmed that Fulham had completed the signing of the Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico on a season-long loan deal.

Rico is an imposing figure standing six feet five inches tall and has accumulated in excess of 160 appearances during a four-year stint with the Spanish side.

Talking about joining Fulham, our referenced source quotes Rico as having remarked;

“I’m very happy, really pleased to have signed for the oldest club in the Premier League.

“I’m excited to start training, to meet all my team-mates and, above all, to enjoy the season that starts this Saturday.”

Now we’re all left pondering over who exactly will be between the sticks as Jokanovic’s first choice keeper this coming season, will it be Bettinelli, Fabri or Rico?

After playing a part in getting the club promoted, it’d be extremely harsh if Bettinelli wasn’t given the chance to shine but, then again, Fabri and Rico surely weren’t brought in just to sit on the bench.

I guess when the team-sheet is revealed ahead of the game against Crystal Palace, on Saturday, we’ll all have an inkling of how the boss is thinking.

But, here at Vital Fulham, we’d certainly be interested to read your views as to who you see as being in pole position for the green jersey this season, please feel free to drop your views in the comments facility beneath this article.
