The morning after the night before; And boy, what a night it was!

Whilst only half the job is done of course, you can’t help, as a Fulham fan, but feel overly delighted with the 2-1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk.

The game was always going to be difficult with Donestk boasting a vast array of talent stretching from their solid Ukranian roots through to their blatant Brazilian flair.

To be honest, it’s the uphill struggle that I for one expected, that has allowed this victory to leave such a sweet and succulent taste in many a Fulham fan’s mouth.

On the whole, I think critics wouldn’t be too far out if they claimed we didn’t deserve the victory. We weren’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but, we showed some decent British grit and determination and pulled out a memorable victory off the back of it.

Bobby Zamora’s strike, however, is what people will remember most, not just for the splendid demeanour in which the ball flew past the dumbfounded Donetsk keeper, but, for the importance and above all, timing of the goal. BZ’s ferocious kick will be the highlight that would underpin our European campaign so far, if we can produce some magic on the Ukranian’s home turf and make it through to the next stage.

As an outsider it may seem difficult to quite realise what the hype is all about. We beat an overly average foreign team when they were at their weakest; during their seasonal break.

To a Fulham fan though, it’s one of those memorable victories where we proved the doubters wrong, sang jolly songs and enjoyed every minute in the process.

Let’s hope all the effort was worth it and we can, yet again, relish another European night out next week.
