Fulham seaking future solidity as they join chase for Championship aces Cash & Robinson

|

On the face of it, these sound like the perfect deal for Fulham to be making this summer.

We’re getting players who appear to be Premier League quality, based on the other teams that are going after them, but we don’t have to pay too extortionate a fee in order to try and get them. It’s a far cry from how we handled things last time we got promoted.

According to reports, Fulham find themselves making attempts to try and strong-arm their way into negotiations for two highly sought after Championship players, with Football Insider saying we are after Nottingham Forest’s right-back Matty Cash, whilst The Sun saying we are looking to bring in left-back Antonee Robinson from Wigan Athletic.

Not only are these areas that Fulham need to add some depth to, but given their ages, it would give us the option of having that depth for years to come when you consider the players who already hold those spots.

How much will Fulham spend this winter?

Less than £10m

More than £10m

Denis Odoi is 32 and Maxime Le Marchand is 30, and whilst the former might be a useful utility player to cover across the backline, he won’t be able to do that for much longer, both because of his age and his contract situation. Meanwhile, given Le Marchand’s ever decreasing lack of game time at the club, I don’t think he’s got much of a future here.

And just for the record, I think Cyrus Christie will be our regular starter in the Premier League next season, so that’s why I haven’t included him as a potential departure.

However, with Cash and Robinson both 23, and available for a combined £16.5m according to the reports, the solidity and quality that these two players would provide us going forward would set us up for years to come, regardless of what division we find ourselves in for 2021/22.

What about you? What do you make of these moves for Cash and Robinson?
