Fulham – Sanchez on the TV (again)!

Tuning into Sky Sports on Sunday, through bleary eyes after watching the boxing most of the night, to catch up on all the football action, I was startled to see the face of Lawrie Sanchez peering back at me.

In a way it helped me to wake up properly after less then four hours sleep after a heavy night.

As usual Lawrie talked a lot of sense and some of his tales relating to the ‘crazy gang` days at Wimbledon were quite comical but you just knew it was going to come, you just knew that at some stage in the programme the conversation would be turned around to his last days at Fulham and his subsequent exit.

When it did, Sanchez bemoaned the fact that he thought he was hard done and should have been given more time as his side had only occupied a relegation place for a minimal amount of time.

Off course, the conversation moved on to the apparent ruse whereby those in charge of football clubs do not give managers sufficient time to turn things around. In fact the conversation unearthed the fact that managers often hang on to their jobs knowing that of they are given some transfer wedge in January they are safe until, at least, the following May.

Now, in all honesty, we`ll never know if Lawrie would have turned things around or whether we`d have plunged into the Championship but the bottom line suggests the Fulham board felt they couldn`t wait any longer and run the risk of the latter scenario developing.

For that we`re eternally grateful as that dramatic last day escape would, in our opinion, validate the boards decision. We`re sorry Lawrie but it`s time you got over it and moved on we obviously have!
