Fulham – Rivalling Wigan for Johnson?

After having signed Bobby Zamora our squad has a fair number of strikers in it.

As well as Zamora we have Erik Nevland, Eddie Johnson, Collins John, David Healy and probably a couple of others that, at the moment, I’m too hung over to remember.

Strange then that, according to the Daily Mirror, we’ve placed ourselves alongside Wigan Athletic as serious contenders for the signature of the want-away Everton forward Andrew Johnson.

Apparently, Wigan Athletic, managed by Steve Bruce, are preparing to offer Wigan a fee in the region of £9 million.

Now forgive me if I sound a little churlish, but that fee itself would be enough to frighten me off.

There’s no denying that our inability to score on a regular basis last season played a part in our relegation struggle and whilst admitting that the loss of Brian McBride will hit us hard, as will the loss of Diomansy (Joe) Kamara through injury, someone please tell me we’re not going to lavish that amount of cash on Johnson?

Please!
