One hole that needs to be plugged over the summer months is of course as back up for our ever reliable pairing of Brede Hangeland and Aaron Hughes.

Judging by the current squad, only Chris Baird seems capable of filling in that position so obviously at least one more player is needed to play this role.

Due to Smalling’s age I’d like to see Roy go after someone with youth on their side and potential.

We have been linked numerous times to Rochdale centre half Craig Dawson, whilst Rangers’ young centre half Danny Wilson seems to be on the verge of a move to Liverpool for a miniscule fee-surely we could go after him?

Yet again, whatever Roy decides, I’m sure it’ll be best for our club.

  • Replace Smalling with….. Largeling? *weak laugh*.. Cmon fellas, surely that doesn’t deserve banning me! lol

  • baird will be fine how many back up center halfs do we need Im sure even bobby could fill in at a pinch ha ha he has the hight and strength

  • Baird played his best this season in defensive mid replacing Etuhu. Should Hughes or Hangeland go down, you’re not going to get very far with Baird at CB for an extended period. Since were talking about a backup, I’d go after Anthony Gardner from Hull (should be no more than £2m) or David Wheater from ‘Boro (if Roy could convinces them to part with him).

  • 2 mill for a back up player I cant see mo going for that also would a 2 million rated player want to play as a back up I would only use baird a emergency cover and get maybe a loan player that seems to be roys practice

  • no, we need to bring in quality cover at center back… wheater would be a steal, he seemed real quality… from the final games in the league with baird and smalling at center back, baird did not convince me that he can be a long term replacement if brede or hughes went down with injury… bring someone in, (Sir) Roy!
