The late postponement of the fixture, against Blackburn Rovers yesterday, was very disappointing.

Stories are rife of supporters travelling towards Craven Cottage not aware that the game was in any doubt, indeed, we have the utmost sympathy for those who journeyed down from Ewood Park in vain.

The late postponement went against a recently introduced Football League objective whereby decisions are made at a far earlier stage, perhaps the Premier League should follow suit.

However, the postponement will be the subject of an investigation by the authorities who will be keen to find out why the under-soil heating proved ot be so ineffective with a spokesman commenting,

‘We will certainly be asking the clubs concerned, and the match officials, to give their accounts of what happened,’ said a Premier League spokesman. ‘If it was found that inadequate precaution was taken then it would be referred to the Premier League board.

‘We stipulate that clubs should be able to stage games when the temperature drops to -3C.

The other club in question being Portsmouth whose game against Manchester City suffered a similar fate.

We await their report with much anticipation.
