The late postponement of the fixture, against Blackburn Rovers yesterday, was very disappointing.

Stories are rife of supporters travelling towards Craven Cottage not aware that the game was in any doubt, indeed, we have the utmost sympathy for those who journeyed down from Ewood Park in vain.

The late postponement went against a recently introduced Football League objective whereby decisions are made at a far earlier stage, perhaps the Premier League should follow suit.

However, the postponement will be the subject of an investigation by the authorities who will be keen to find out why the under-soil heating proved ot be so ineffective with a spokesman commenting,

‘We will certainly be asking the clubs concerned, and the match officials, to give their accounts of what happened,’ said a Premier League spokesman. ‘If it was found that inadequate precaution was taken then it would be referred to the Premier League board.

‘We stipulate that clubs should be able to stage games when the temperature drops to -3C.

The other club in question being Portsmouth whose game against Manchester City suffered a similar fate.

We await their report with much anticipation.

  • Having left Ewood at 6… we were in Fulham by 11 and settled in a great pub called the 8 bells! (Do you know it?) After the game was called off we got surprise vists from Chris Samba, Aaron Mokena and the Legendary Simon Garner! so the day wasn’t wasted! Let’s hope Al Fayed coughs up and pays for our travel for the replay!

  • Your frustration is matched only by ours and our embarrassment over this fiasco. Now of course the re-arranged match will be mid-week: even more inconvenience!

  • It is abit annoying when you get on the train and bakers street, its 2 o’clock, your day is suited around the football match and the driver tells you the match has been cancelled. we have been in the premier league a number of years now and either we do have under-soil heating (but the bloody thing is terrible), or we dont and from what i have heard, we dont.
