Fulham – Our Humble Internationals

Quite of few of our squad members were busy Wednesday (which may or may not be a good thing; we’ll find out Saturday). Let’s see what they got up to:

Top honours go to, whom else, our jolly giant Brede Hangeland. He put in yet another man-of-the-match performance to lead Norway to their first victory, a 1-0 shutout, over Germany since 1973. Noteworthy, the match was played in Germany. Erik Nevland was stuck in a familiar role coming off the bench in the final minutes of the match.

Those plucky Americans continued their silly streak of beating Mexico in
the states, to the tune of 2-0. Clint Dempsey played all 90 minutes (didn’t Coach Bradley know he had a crucial FA Cup tie tomorrow?) and ran all over the place. Michael Bradley, Bradley’s son, scored both goals, and has been in fine form for some time now. He would be a great pick up over the summer, and we were linked to him before if memory serves. Plus, we can
never have too many Americans.

Mark Schwarzer had some luck against a qualifier rival in Japan. He had the big save of the match, and held off for a 0-0 draw which kept the Socceroos 2 points up.

Aaron Hughes played 81 minutes before sustaining a dead leg in a 3-0 win over San Marino. Seems Hughes and Hangeland are getting comfortable keeping clean sheets.

John Pantsil contributed to the first goal for team Ghana after his cross was handled and the ensuing penalty was dispatched. Ghana ended up drawing 2-2 with Egypt.

Zoltan Gera played all 90 minutes of Hungary’s 1-0 loss to Israel, and Tony Kallio played all 90 minutes of Finland’s 1-0 loss to Portugal.

Let’s hope they’re all well rested for the clash in South Wales.
