Following on from our 2-0 reverse at Old Trafford, the pressure is starting to increase on the Fulham camp.
We may, currently, be well away from the relegation places but in reality we`re only two points away form the dreaded drop zone.
With a trip to Everton this weekend, it`s starting to look increasingly like, unless we can reverse our poor away form, that a drop down the table is somewhat inevitable.
After spending in excess of £25 million last summer, a point we often keep returning to, we always knew that it would take time for the team to gel, however, as the old saying goes – time is running out.
Indeed, instead of trotting out a plethora of excuses, hasn`t the time come to stick out chests out, knuckle down and fight the opposition in the trenches?
It`s fine for Lawrie Sanchez to come out with such quotes as,
“My team have got to be more tougher, nastier. We have a great bunch of players who can play some attractive football. But we do need to be that little bit competitive in certain areas, not just sit back and admire.”
but shouldn`t he be the one cultivating this tougher, nasty streak? Is it not a flaw in their preparation if they`re continually prepared to sit back and admire?
Also, matters aren`t helped when the player`s seem intent on suggesting things could improve. The latest to do so is Bouazza who, after the United game, was quoted as saying,
“There is room for me to improve. Once I get into top form I can do more for the team.
“We have some good players, so hopefully we`ll finish in the top half of the table. But we need to be stronger all over the pitch.”
We haven`t got time to hope, we haven`t got time to take half a season for players to get into top form.
The Premier League is amongst the most competitive in the world. If we don`t buck up we could be remembered as the club that slipped out of the comfortable financial world that is the premier League into the malaise that is the Championship.
No more excuses lads; let`s get survival nailed and as quick as possible.
