This morning I should have been debating the performance the team gave in the FA Cup 3rd round replay against Bristol Rovers, at the Memorial Ground.

I`d have either had a smile on my face after we`d progressed into the next round or I`d be grimacing with embarrassment if Bristol Rovers had of turned us over.

Instead I`m doing neither.

The weather in our quaint old country intervened and made the Memorial Ground pitch resemble a mud-bath, leaving the referee with no alternative other than to declare the surface unplayable.

Therefore any dilemma Roy Hodgson may have been suffering with regard to risking Jimmy Bullard on the heavy ground became immaterial.

Instead, we`re all left to sit and wait until next Tuesday, January 22nd, when hopefully the flood waters will have receded, the pitch will have dried out and we can get down to the business of beating Bristol Rovers and moving on to a fourth round tie against Swindon Town or Barnet.

The FA Cup is, currently, providing a little welcome relief from the dire Premier League season and ahead of the clash our left back, Paul Konchesky, had, in an interview, declared that the cup could help to bolster confidence in a squad that is lacking a little bit in that department, here`s a brief glimpse of what he had to say,

“A cup run can boost your confidence, so hopefully we can get the result.”

This time next week we`ll know exactly if the confidence has been boosted or whether it`ll be at an all time low.

Stay tuned to find out.
