Fulham Need To Strengthen In Defence And Midfield If They Are To Replicate Wolves Championship Success

|

All Fulham fans must agree that the transfer debacle of last season, has so far been considerably improved.

Tony Khan has brought in two excellent strikers in Cavaleiro and Knockaert and managed to keep our top goalscorer Mitrovic and captain Cairney.

If Fulham are to do a ‘Wolves’ in their runaway Championship title success a couple of years back, then more strength is needed, especially in defence and midfield. If Anguissa does leave, as reported today in The Evening Standard it will be a shame. I believe he would have been an asset this season in midfield, as a regular contender in central midfield with Macdonald. If he leaves, we must bring in a replacement.

As for the contentious opinions of our current right-back Christie, he played for Ireland in midfield and was apparently a success in that position. He should be considered and given the same chance at Fulham. He may well surprise many fans that he does have a future at the Cottage. We do have young Steven Sessegnon (hopefully Spurs don’t nick him in a last minute deal), who will develop over the season with more game time. I still believe though we need a new proven right back to start the season.

I am not convinced about the two players Tottenham have supposedly offered as a ‘deal’ in their long-running admiration and capture of Ryan Sessegnon. Tony Khan should hold out for at least £30m.

It would benefit the club should Ryan stay another season with Fulham, and help us gain automatic promotion. His value could sky-rocket again, he will be another year older, stronger and ready, should he still want to move to pastures new.

We need a good start to this campaign with a run of straight wins, especially home games. That will show the other clubs that we are a force this season, and the Cottage will once again be a ground they won’t relish visiting.

As for rivals for promotion from the Championship, I see Leeds, Cardiff and WBA being up there.

There will also be the inevitable shock team, which could possibly be Forest or Sheffield Wednesday.

In the EPL, the three promoted teams will struggle to survive. Aston Villa might just escape as Brighton and possibly Newcastle will be battling to stay up another season.
