Fulham’s chances of securing the services of Roma striker Vincenzo Montella appear to have faltered after it was revealed that neither he or the Rome club have discussed his future.

Montella, a former Italy international, has been restricted to a handful of cameo appearances this season under current coach Luciano Spalletti.

The 32-year-old hitman arrived at the Stadio Olimpico in a £15million transfer from Sampdoria in 2001 and helped Roma win the Scudetto during his first season in the Eternal City.

The Cottagers have been heavily linked with a January move for the out-of-favour striker but Montella – who has been plagued by back and neck injuries during the last two seasons – appears to be happy to wait for his chance.

‘Nothing has been decided about my future,’ he claimed. ‘Neither myself or Roma have come up with a plan.

‘I want to underline that nothing at all has occurred between the coach and I.

‘My lack of action is purely down to tactical reasons and I have to accept that.’
