Returning to the far from normal line-up selected by Roy Hodgson, I`d like to, despite my constant harping on about not agreeing totally with the policy, point out one thing.
Whilst it did look considerably weaker, on paper, than our standard line-up, it should be pointed out that apart from David Stockdale, every other one of those who started has some kind of international recognition at one level or other!
And, there`s no disputing that those who did play will have learned a lot more form the experience than playing in front of a few hardy souls at Hotspur Park, or as Roy succinctly put it,
“Players like David Stockdale and Chris Smalling will have learned more tonight than from a dozen reserve games.”
Kudos to Roy even though we`re still adamant it wasn`t the way we`d choose to go forward!
