Yesterday we reported how Fulham`s interest in a young defender might see Manchester United do a deal.

The young player in question was Reece James, a 21-year-old defender who it was expected was going to replicate last season and be sent out on loan.

Fulham`s intentions were to fend off any clubs that were interested in taking James on loan by trying to secure a permanent deal for the player.

However, it seems Fulham weren`t the only club thinking along those lines.

This morning it has been announced by Manchester United and confirmed by the BBC that the 21-year-old has left Manchester United but instead of possibly heading for the delights of London, James has chosen the delighting setting of Wigan Pier for the next stage of his career.

Wigan have signed the 21-year-old on a three year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Plenty more fish in the sea, as they say!
