In this day and age of numerous injuries and the stressed importance of having three goalkeepers, I can’t help but feel worried about our 25 man squad and the lack of place for the invisible man Pascal Zuberbuhler. You can only look on in envy at Spurs’ three keepers all being high class – Gomes, Cudicini and Pletikosa.

The further worry about this situation is that rumours suggest Stockdale is out for two months and Schwarzer’s supposed ‘minor injury’. Who will sit on the bench if Stockdale is out for that spell, one can only assume Hughes has seen enough in Etheridge to suggest he is good enough.

Furthermore, there are places in the squad for players rumoured to be leaving with a slim chance of first team football, the likes of Eddie Johnson, Fredrik Stoor and Diomansy Kamara. Perhaps, Zuberbuhler could have had one of their places?

  • I think we’ll be more than fine with DS and Schwarzer. When you have two quality keepers like that, backup isn’t too essential. The likes of Etheridge/Joronen will be decent enough if the worst comes to the worst, and I have a feeling Mark Schwarzer may well have shaken off his injury given that the transfer window is now shut.

  • I’m assuming Zuby has a more authoritive/coaching role now, as he’s just signed a new contract? Would seem silly to sign on, in the knowledge that he would never play. Strange one.

  • Stockdale looks class, and you can always apply for an emergency loan of a keeper…oh, wait, you don’t have petro-trillions to throw at Richard scudamore. Joking aside, you can apply for a third, so don’t worry.

  • very true we do have to good young keepers that will do as a last resort dont press the panic button just yet we also have a weeks grace

  • just imagine just before kickoff at the bridge…..mark s is injured…..stockdale gets sent off after felling drogba…..dempsey goes in goal……saves fat lampard’s pen….0-0 with three minutes on the clock…..pantsil bombs up the wing….plays a one, two with dembele…..and smashes the ball into the roof of the net from 15 yards out……0-1 and we all leave the bridge singing…..
