With the expectancy that Brede Hangeland will be snapped up by a bigger club this summer, there is every possibility that Fulham will be looking for a new defender this summer.

One name we`ve been linked to in the past could be the answer to our problems.

The Croatian defender, Josip Simunic, currently playing for Hertha Berlin, could be sold this summer.

Simunic has expressed a desire to play in the Premier League and the Hertha Berlin manager, Dieter Hoeness, has commented about the situation.

The crux of the matter being that Hoeness is unable to decide if the Premier League dream expressed by his player has died with the player admitting in a recent interview,

“I don’t know if this dream is over, but I am a Hertha player at the moment and I only focus on the next game.”

Hoeness rates Simunic highly stating,

“Joe is one of the best defenders in Europe.

“Not long ago, some people doubted he had the fitness to play in Bundlesiga – now he has shown what he can do.’

“He is an outstanding talent.”

Perhaps a good indication that Simunic could be sold comes with Hoeness` admittance that selling would raise the necessary cash to improve his squad when he remarks,

“[Selling star players] is always a possibility so that we can fund new signings.”

“By selling, we have the chance to build our squad.”

“We can sell players and then spend smaller sums on quality new signings – it gives us a way forwards for the future.”

We`ll paw through the sports pages to see if anything further turns up on this one in the coming months.
