Fulham – Life After Roy?

Many a Fulham fan was delighted to hear that Roy Hodgson, the man who has guided us to the heights of European football, signed a new contract a week or so back.

I’m sure, though, that I wasn’t the only one who was slightly concerned when the specific details of his deal were announced. I would say a 12 month deal is slightly ‘short-term’, but, I didn’t expect any more from a man who is reaching the end of a long and illustrious career.

The fact it is a rolling deal can be seen either negatively or positively, however. It could mean the shortness of the deal is irrelevant, as he will re-sign as soon as it is over.

But, it could also mean that he has a way out, with the likes of even the English National Team knocking on his gold-plated door. And, with that thought in mind, I think we need to consider life at Fulham, after the great man has left.

That fact saddens me unfortunately, as his experience, tactical-nous and transfer knowledge are not rivaled by any manager that springs to mind. With Roy we’ve had stability.

He’s built a strong squad out of players that, in all fairness, you wouldn’t really have considered to be top 10 Premier League material over 12 months ago.

He has brought this club something that it has been calling for ever since we achieved the top flight status again in 2001, and I really can’t see us continuing it after he has gone.

The bigger he makes us now though, the better the manager we can attract once he has gone, supposedly.

On that basis, who, if anyone, do you think could continue his legacy after he has gone?
