Okay, I have been browsing the forums on the official site lately and have noticed one player in particular has come in for stinging criticism.

That player is Dickson Etuhu!

Moans about him seem to range from: he can’t pass very well and he’s not very adventurous.

Anyone who has watched Fulham over the last 18 months should realise that the defensive midfield role utilised by Roy is one of interception and breaking up play.

Who better to do that than Dickson with his presence, strength and height.

Now, I know Dickson isn’t the best passer in the land and isn’t the most creative of players but he is successful in that role and quite simply doesn’t need the ball too much, so he will play it quickly to either Murphy, the wingers or the full backs to start another attack.

I’ve seen two suggestions offered.

Firstly, we have Chris Baird to take the role. Despite having had a good season, Baird doesn’t seem to have the presence of Etuhu and he seems to me to be a far better defender.

Then we have Dikgacoi offered up as an alternative. What is this based on, I ask?

Dikgacoi seems like he has a lot of potential, but let`s not forget he only really had a run of two great games before his injury. Surely, it’d be better to gradually take him to the role.

Maybe, I like the Murphy/Etuhu midfield combination too much because last season it was fantastic when it became the settled norm but various reasons have limited their playing time together this season.

Why don’t we be positive and just support Dickson (and Danny) in the role they do or whoever Roy decides to choose!
