With Ashley Cole a doubt for the World Cup and fellow left back Wayne Bridge having opted out of going, thanks to his spat with John Terry, a vacancy exists.

The chance is there for somebody to get an unexpected place in the squad and our captain, Danny Murphy, feels that the perfect candidate is at hand, a certain Paul Konchesky.

With many pundits opting for Leighton Baines (Everton) or Steven Warnock (Aston Villa), Danny believes that Konchesky is better than both of them remarking,

“Ashley Cole is the best left back in the world.”

“But if he`s not fit, it`s irrelevant whether Wayne Bridge changes his mind or whatever.”

“I`ve played a couple of years with Konch and, if he can get himself fit, and flying, there`s no better left-back because he`s a great defender.”

“He`s quick, no one does him for pace, he`s good on one-on-ones and he`s a really good passer.”

“I don`t see a better left back than Konchesky out there other than Cole.”

“People talk about Stevie Warnock, who`s a terrific player I was with at Liverpool. He has great potential but he hasn`t got the pace Konchesky`s got.”

“At international level, that pace is crucial.”

Paul has played for England previously, earning two caps, but not since 2005.

Could Paul be the surprise inclusion in Fabio`s squad come May 2010?
