Returning to Italy and with the media hovering like a pack of wolves, it was a racing certainty that Roy Hodgson, at one time or other, would be quizzed about his time managing in Serie A.

Having had successful spells at both Udinese and Inter Milan, the hacks were keen to press Roy on whether he`d ever consider returning to the pressure cooker that is Serie A.

Roy, like the perfect gentleman he is, didn`t evade the questions but merely left them basically unanswered with a few clever quips, commenting,

“You never say never. Why not? If it happens, it happens. You never know what is going to happen in football.”

“In particular, the two spells at Inter were very enjoyable and I left with good memories, certainly amongst the people who worked there.”

“Italy will always have a fond place in my memory and played an important part in my career. I am always happy to come back here.”

Roy is, off course, on a rolling one year contract at Craven Cottage and reading between the lines we suspect that Roy was implying he has no problems returning to Italy for the odd jaunt, at his age you`d have to question whether a full time return to Italian football would ever really be on the agenda.

  • Depends on who’s asking. If a big Italian side come calling, I could understand him taking another shot. I think his focus on team organization and solid defending suits the Italian game. I don’t think it will happen, but you never know.

  • i agree… he’s not going to rule anything out, because he knows from experience how quickly it can turn from toast of the town to out on your bum… can’t blame him really… i just hope he stays at fulham, which i think he will…
