Fulham – Just Like Pompey?

With our safety secured the age old debate about where we see ourselves going over the next eighteen months can be started.

With it being commonly accepted that the top four of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are in a league of their own, it`s probably safe to say that we`ll not be aiming that high.

Indeed, although Al Fayed is a wealthy man, we seriously doubt whether he`d be prepared to throw into Fulham Football Club the kind of cash a certain Kevin Keegan has intimated would be needed to break the stranglehold the top four have on English. Therefore, it`s kind of interesting to perceive in which direction Roy intends to steer the club.

Perhaps a pointer can be found in the quotes Roy recently gave to the press reating to Portsmouth Football Club whereby he remarked,

“Portsmouth have some very good players.”

“”They`ve spent money wisely. Harry, with his authority and his great status within the game is a magnet for certain players.” He`s put together a very good team and in that respect I`m quite jealous.”

“I don`t think I can use Portsmouth as a blue print. Every club is different in terms of its budgets and the type of people it can attract. Your location can also affect things here.”

“What I will say is that Harry has had time to put his team together, and he`s put it together very wisely and it`s paid dividends. They`ve had a marvellous season in the league and now they are in the Cup Final. All congratulations to him and certainly we`d like to think that given time we could put a team together that fits our way of thinking and our way of playing.”

Well, I suppose they are something of a role model after reaching the FA Cup Final and achieving their highest Premier League position ever.

However, I can`t help thinking that the fact we`re located in West London may give us the edge when it comes to persuading players to move to England, or has the south coast got an enticement factor all of it`s own.

Your thoughts please!
