With this season being a prelude for the forthcoming World Cup, several players are getting a touch nervous.

Some players are realising that no regular first team football is seriously going to hamper their chances of getting a place in their national squads.

One such player is Eddie Johnson.

Eddie is unable to hold down a place on the substitutes bench let alone a place in the starting eleven and last season he was loaned out to Cardiff.

The move wasn`t the success he`d hoped for. Eddie struggled to impress the supporter`s of the Welsh club and only towards the end of the season did he start to make an impact.

But Eddie is keen to go out on loan again, keen to make his mark in a first team, keen to keep on attracting attention from the USA team manager.

Unless he`s prepared to wait until January though it looks like the Championship beckons again fro Eddie who talking about the situation and having a reality check has remarked to the media,

‘Every player wants to play for their country in the World Cup, and I haven’t been a part of the US team as much as I used to be before I came here.”

‘I’ve been out of the set-up for a while – my last cap was seven months ago. There’s a lot of players ahead of me in the pecking order, but I just need to keep working hard.”

‘The US manager already knows what I can do, it’s just a matter of me playing regular, first-team football.”

‘I want to be playing week in, week out, because it’s going to help my confidence. If it means going on loan or getting some game time here, then so be it.’

Has anyone got any ideas where Eddie might end up?
