Charlton Athletic are reportedly ready to rival Fulham for the services of highly-rated QPR striker Ray Jones in the January transfer window.

The 18-year-old striker has been a shining light in the troubled Championship side this season with four goals to his credit and has already attracted the attentions of Cottagers boss Chris Coleman, while Liverpool, Newcastle and Wigan have also been linked.

But Fulham’s £50,000 offer for Jones was immediately rejected by QPR, whose chairman Gianni Paladini felt was derisory, and it now looks like they will be open to more offers next month or face the prospect of a tribunal setting the fee when his contract expires at Loftus Road next summer.

It is thought Addicks boss Les Reed also could enter the race with a more attractive proposition for Jones and link him up with Darren Bent in attack as he bids to save the club from relegation.

Coleman is in the hunt for a new striker but will have to pay significantly more than £50,000 if he wants to land the youngster.
