Having just watched Sky Sports’ build up to the Manchester United v Arsenal clash, I was interested to note that they had a piece on Edwin Van der Sar.

With all the praise he has earned this season it made me wonder whether he had improved since moving to Manchester United. Had he, at his age, suddenly become a better goalkeeper?

I was delighted when he signed for us, at last a big name who shows Al Fayed’s ambition to make us the ‘United of the South’.

However, despite some world class saves, I remember Van der Sar never quite living up to his full billing with his howler against Arsenal during our Loftus Road years being one example of this.

This moves me on to what I want to say. Mark Schwarzer. I can honestly say, he is the greatest keeper I have seen put on a Fulham shirt and he has, in my opinion, done more than Van der Sar managed during his stay with us.

Schwarzer has made some blinding saves, he catches the ball superbly and he organises the defence so well. I do hope he receives some credit be it in the press or in the clubs end of season awards.

Mark, you have been fantastic and I honestly hope you do win Player of the Season at the club. You already have my vote!

  • Have to admit he’s surprised me with his performances, I thought Boro had let him go cos he was past it !

  • very happy… he’s so consistently good… it’s been a little eerie not being used to seeing a lot of goals go in… it comes as a shock when one slips through…

  • he has had a new lease of life coming down to fulham,he has carried that form into our internationals aswell,he was getting stail at boro, this was just what he needed
