I`m never at my best in the early morning! I`m one of those people that never really comes alive until at least ten o`clock.

But I have to admit that collecting the tabloids and rummaging through the football gossip columns does bring an early morning smile to my face.

This morning, with there still being a distinct chill in the air, I couldn`t help wandering down the road, back pages open and having a sneak preview at who might be a transfer target for Fulham.

And there it was standing out from the rest of the dross, a rumour that the Wolverhampton Wanderers striker, Kevin Doyle, could be Craven Cottage bound this summer.

Apparently, Mick McCarthy on talking about his prize asset has remarked,

“If we go down, we`ve no chance of holding on to him. If we stay up, we might still have a problem because there will be a few interested.”

Now with a fee of £6.5 million mentioned, a possible signing of the Irish striker does bring a smile to my face, Doyle has carved out a reputation as a classy Premier League forward and would be a valuable asset to the squad.

But, and this is a big but, there does appear to be the usual collection of other clubs that are showing an interest, with a cast list that includes, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Everton, therefore I wouldn`t waste too much sleep waiting for this one to materialise, like I said in starting, don`t you just love the gossip?

  • 6.5 isn’t too high for him? i guess i’ve never seen him with a great team, but that seems high to me… and surely we’re ahead of sunderland, no? heck, they might go down…

  • I’d call £6.5m way too high of a price. He’s solid player, but I wouldn’t pay more than £4m (and that’s if I was drunk).

  • I think he scores well enough, but for me he’s in that ‘James Beattie/David Nugent’ category. Good players, but mind how much you spend for them ’cause you might be paying £1m per goal.
