Today the Daily Express reports that Fulham are poised to swoop for free agent Mark Viduka after Portsmouth pulled out of a deal

It was widely thought that the former Newcastle, Middlesborough and Leeds striker would be joining Portsmouth this summer.

However due to financial problems at the south coast side and the players apparent demands for a 2 year contract have led Portsmouth to pull out of a potential deal.

This has left the door open for Fulham to swoop for the forward with the Daily Express commenting,

“Fulham today expect to complete the signing of Australia striker Mark Viduka on a free transfer.”

“He flew into London last night for talks with Cottagers manager Roy Hodgson. Viduka, 33, is a free agent after his contract with Newcastle ran out at the end of last season”

“Viduka is expected to undergo a medical at Fulham this morning. He scored seven goals in 38 games in two years with the Magpies”

This leaves two questions to be asked,

Does this mean we will be offering him the 2 year contract he wants?

And is Viduka a gamble seeing as he is now 33 and very injury prone?

If we`re not paying him much in wages, although that seems unlikely, I think it could be a good deal and adds depth to the squad for free. Ideally I was hoping for a more youthful striker but Viduka could add some European experience.
