After the shenanigans of the Martin Jol recruitment campaign, could Fulham be finally about to land their man?

The red-top tabloid press are insistent thatMark Hughes has the job nailed down and that his appointment will be verified sometime before our friendly with Portsmouth this weekend, possibly even today.

Hughes has, apparently, decided to move away from his settled surroundings in the north-west and return to London to resume his Premier League managerial career.

It`s being reported that he`s putting pen to paper on a deal similar to that which was available for Martin Jol, namely a three year contract on circa £2 million a year.

As for an assistant, the name of Mark Bowen is thrown into the ring although we`d hope that Mark would retain the services of Ray Lewington who has steered the ship in admirable fashion since Roy Hodgson decided to venture north.

With less than three weeks to the season, one tabloid reports that amongst the first of several tasks Hughes will have to see to will be too make a decision on whether to allow Mark Schwarzer to go to Arsenal or whether to keep him at Craven Cottage.

There`s also the small matter of the proposed transfer of Steve Sidwell, from Aston Villa, to sort out with it being reported a transfer has been completed but subject to the approval of the in-coming manager.

Busy times ahead starting the minute Mark Hughes, if the press are correct, puts pen to paper!
