Pushed out to play at full back, against Aston Villa, Aaron Hughes might have been a little envious of Chris Smalling playing alongside Brede Hangleand.
But Aaron isn`t like that, he`s a model professional and he has nothing but kind words to say about the youngster who will soon be departing to pastures new.
Speaking about Chris Smalling`s move to Old Trafford, Aaron has waxed,
“If anyone deserves the success then it`s him.”
“Arsenal and Manchester United have kept tabs on him and I think we`ll look back in a few years and see it as a bargain. United are no mugs.”
“They`ve watched him, he`s been in the England U21`s.” They`ll look back and say they stole him.”
Time remains the key to this one we think, but Aaron could well have a point!
Fulham – Hughes on Smalling!

You never know how these U-21s will turn out, so I think it was good business… even if he does turn into the next Rio Ferdinand!
10 or 12 mill a lot of dosh for a club like ours and we all thought brad would go who would have thought it well well well
I’m totally with Teddy on this one, much can happen between now and Smalling being a Premier League regular
He might be a bargain in a few years time for them, but I think it’s the most money we could ever receive for him
still not sure, after Saturday, if he will be the player United expect!
what is it now – 3 first team games – one own goal and one poor piece of positioning sense giving a goal away! Long way to go I feel!
come now… i can’t say the own goal was really his fault… maybe in a positioning respect it was… but i wouldn’t put that on him… gabby’s first goal, absolutely his fault… but it’s a good point, you never know if he’ll be a dean ashton or a david nugent… i guess nugent’s still got time, but he’s no wayne rooney…
Good bit of business, ok it would have been nice to keep him for a while longer but under alex he may develop quicker…
good money for us
