Our league position may look a little perilous with just goal difference between us and a relegation place but, once again, we are flying high in the Fair Play League.

When this fact was pointed out to Mark Hughes, ahead of the Sunderland game, Sparky had this to say,

“It makes a change from most of the clubs I`ve been at because we are usually right at the bottom of the Fair Play League.”

“I think you have to be competitive but don`t think the Fair Play League really illustrates the whole story because it could be affected by officials.”

No doubt Mark was referring to the fearsome Blackburn Rovers side he had control over.

However, Sparky was quick to recognise that despite some requests to get uglier, his current squad are not the sort to go around kicking other sides, further commenting,

“We have a group of players that want to get the ball down and pass and play and move.”

“We are not the most aggressive team in the league but you can`t tell players to do something they are naturally not capable of.”

“It`s about using the resources that I have and that is what I am doing.”

Could there be plans afoot to sign a midfield enforcer come January?
